Stage one · Age 3 to 4

Playway

The first year is about school itself — being away from home for a few hours, sitting with other children, and discovering that this place is safe and interesting.

What children work on

Speaking in short sentences and answering when spoken to
Holding a crayon, colouring within a shape, tracing lines
Recognising colours, basic shapes, and counting to ten
Rhymes, action songs and simple stories
Sitting in a circle, waiting for a turn, packing their own bag

How it is taught

Entirely through play. Blocks, puzzles, sorting toys, floor games, songs and picture books — the child experiences the concept before it is ever named. There is no formal writing and no examination at this stage.

Stage two · Age 4 to 6

Nursery, LKG & UKG

Three years in which play slowly makes room for structure. By the end of UKG a child should be reading simple words, writing neatly on a line, and comfortable with numbers to a hundred.

Stage three · Class 1 to 5

Primary School

This is where study habits are formed. Reading becomes fluent, written work becomes daily, and the first proper examinations arrive.

Subjects

English — reading, grammar, comprehension and creative writing
Hindi — reading, vyakaran and written expression
Mathematics — the four operations, tables, fractions, measurement, geometry
Environmental Studies, moving to Science and Social Studies in the upper primary years
Computer education — basic operations and typing
General Knowledge, Art & Craft, Physical Education

Assessment

Regular class tests, written assignments and periodic examinations, with marks discussed at Parent–Teacher Meetings. The point of a test here is to locate a gap, not only to produce a rank.

Stage four · Class 6 to 8

Middle School

The final three years with us. Subject teachers take over, papers get longer, and students are expected to plan their own revision.

Subjects

English and Hindi as full language subjects, with literature and grammar
Mathematics — integers, algebra, geometry, ratio, percentage and mensuration
Science — physics, chemistry and biology topics with practical demonstration
Social Science — history, civics and geography
Computer education, General Knowledge, Art and Physical Education

Getting ready for Class 9

Written examinations in the format they will meet later, project work and presentations, and a steady push towards independent study — so a student can move to any Class 9 without a difficult first term.
