Language development
Listening, speaking, reading and writing — in that order. Early years work on sounds and vocabulary; the primary years on fluency and comprehension; middle school on grammar, literature and writing at length.
Curriculum
Ten subject areas that run through the school, each picked up at the right age and carried forward year on year.
The subjects
What a child studies here.
Teaching is in English, with Hindi taught as a full language subject. The depth of each area changes with the class, but the areas themselves stay constant from the early years onward.
Hindi
Taught as a full subject with its own reading, vyakaran and written work, from swar and vyanjan in the early years through to composition in middle school.
Mathematics
Counting and number sense, the four operations, tables, fractions and decimals, measurement, geometry, and on to algebra, ratio and mensuration by Class 8. Mental maths is practised daily.
Science
Beginning as Environmental Studies — plants, animals, the body, weather, materials — and separating into physics, chemistry and biology topics with demonstration and observation in middle school.
Social Studies
The family and neighbourhood in the early classes, widening into history, civics and geography: how the country is governed, where places are, and what happened before us.
Environmental awareness
Water, waste, trees, cleanliness and the child's own habits — taught as something to act on, through class projects and campus practice rather than as a chapter.
Computer education
Parts of a computer, safe handling, basic operations, typing, and age-appropriate work with documents and drawing tools.
General knowledge
Days and months, festivals, national symbols, current affairs, capitals and famous people — a weekly period plus quizzes and inter-class competitions.
Art & craft
Drawing, colouring, painting, paper work and modelling. Work is displayed in class and entered into school competitions through the year.
Physical education
Free play and movement for the little ones; drills, athletics and team games higher up, plus yoga sessions and preparation for the annual sports meet.
